Nintendo Switch Online subscribers of Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED can enjoy a surprise freebie with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, available globally from today.
This freebie is only available to Expansion Pack subscribers and not all users. The majority of Switch users subscribe to the premium tier of Switch Online for access to legacy games, including Game Boy Advance and N64 games.
Besides access to classic Nintendo games, the Expansion Pack offers various other benefits, such as new profile icons. Subscribers can now showcase the new Zelda game with the latest profile icons, including ones for Link and Zelda.
Expansion Pack subscribers can explore new characters, frames, and backgrounds, each worth ten or five platinum points, depending on the item. Once redeemed, the icons are yours to keep even if your subscription lapses.
If you are not satisfied with the first wave of icons, a new set of icons will be available next Thursday, and these two waves will be the only ones. The first wave will expire next Thursday, May 18. The second wave will expire the following Thursday, May 25. Although it’s rare, sometimes icons are brought back in the future, but it’s not guaranteed.
To subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online on Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, the base tier is priced at $20 for a 12-month subscription. If you want to access the Expansion Pack tier, you will need to pay an extra $30 annually. So, for a 12-month subscription of the Expansion Pack tier, you will have to pay $50.
